The short answer

Match the vehicle’s original lighting equipment, side and part identification—not just the shape of the housing. Confirm the electrical features and included components before buying a used headlight assembly.

Confirm which assembly you actually need

A damaged housing and a failed bulb are not the same repair. Ask your shop whether you need an entire headlight assembly, a replaceable lamp or another lighting component. Explain any collision damage, water intrusion or intermittent operation.

When requesting an assembly, state driver side or passenger side clearly. Include the year, make, model and VIN. If the shop can identify the original part number, add that information to your request.

Match the lighting technology and features

Vehicles may use halogen, HID or LED lighting, with different equipment across trims. A similarly shaped housing is not proof of electrical compatibility. Have your installer verify the lighting type and the relevant connectors.

Tell the shop about adaptive lighting or other original headlight features. Confirm whether replacement modules require setup on your vehicle. A used assembly should be selected for the existing application, not treated as an automatic upgrade to a different lighting system.

Inspect what is included and what is damaged

Ask whether bulbs, ballasts, LED control units, caps and other removable pieces are included. Availability varies by assembly, so request a specific description rather than relying on a category image.

Review available condition information for the lens, mounting tabs, seals and connectors. If there is visible wear or a repaired mounting point, ask how that affects installation. Photos help with exterior assessment but cannot prove that every electronic function operates correctly.

Finish with an installation and aim check

Have the installer inspect fit and operation after replacement and follow the vehicle’s procedure for headlight aiming or setup. Correct lighting is important for both your visibility and other road users.

Keep your quote, confirmed application and purchase terms. Stellar Auto Parts sells used headlights, not new ones. Request the exact condition and included-component information for the assembly offered to you before deciding to buy.

Common questions

Will a headlight fit if its outline looks the same?

Appearance alone is not enough. Confirm the part application, lighting equipment and connectors.

Does an assembly include the bulbs and modules?

Ask for an itemized description. Do not assume every removable component is included.
