The short answer
First clarify what your shop means by an axle assembly. Then confirm the position, drivetrain configuration, identification and any ratio or equipment requirements for your specific vehicle.
An axle request needs a clear description
‘Axle’ can refer to different components depending on the vehicle and repair. A shaft, a differential and a complete housing assembly are not interchangeable descriptions. Ask your installer to spell out the assembly required and whether it is front or rear.
Stellar Auto Parts accepts requests for front axle assemblies and rear axle assemblies. Use the notes field to explain the shop’s exact requirement and the components it expects to receive.
Verify the drivetrain and identification
Provide the VIN, year, make, model, engine and whether the vehicle is two-wheel drive, four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Share an axle tag, identification code or original part number if available.
Have the installer confirm the ratio and differential type where those apply. For a vehicle with driven front and rear axles, ratio compatibility is particularly important; do not select a unit by physical appearance or price alone.
Check brakes, sensors and mounting details
Ask the shop to verify the brake arrangement, sensor provisions and mounting points relevant to your vehicle. A housing that appears similar may have application differences that complicate installation.
Clarify exactly which pieces are included. Do not assume that brakes, shafts, sensors or attached hardware come with every assembly. The quote should describe what is being supplied, and your installer should identify what must be transferred or replaced.
Assess condition and the delivery plan
Request available information about leaks, corrosion, visible damage and any inspections. External condition is only part of the picture, so ask what is known about the assembly’s operation before removal.
Discuss the installation plan and written purchase terms before ordering. These are heavy assemblies; confirm delivery arrangements and charges as part of the quote rather than assuming standard parcel handling. Do not work under a vehicle supported only by a jack; have a qualified shop handle the repair.
Before you request a quote
- Exact assembly and front or rear position
- VIN and drivetrain configuration
- Axle identification, ratio and differential type where applicable
- Brake, sensor and mounting compatibility
- Included components, condition and delivery terms
Common questions
Is a rear axle assembly the same as an axle shaft?
No. Ask your installer to identify the exact component or assembly needed and describe what the quote must include.
Can I choose an axle using the vehicle model alone?
Use model information as a starting point, then verify identification, drivetrain and equipment details with your installer.
