Before you buy

The right transmission. Not just the right model.

Automatic, manual, CVT and dual-clutch transmissions are different designs. Even within one vehicle model, transmission codes, drivetrain layouts and control systems can change the required assembly.

01

Identify the transmission type

Tell us whether your vehicle uses an automatic, manual, CVT or dual-clutch transmission. Include the transmission code or identification tag details if available.

02

Confirm the drivetrain

Front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations can use different assemblies. A similar-looking unit is not proof of compatibility.

03

Clarify included components

Ask whether a torque converter, sensors or control module are included where applicable. Manual clutch components and other installation parts may need to be sourced separately.

04

Use the specified fluid

Transmission fluid is not universal. Your installer should use the manufacturer-specified fluid and filling procedure; some units require a temperature-controlled level check.

05

Address the original failure

A shop should check for debris in the cooler and lines where applicable and follow the maker’s cleaning or replacement procedure. Some vehicles also require programming or an adaptation/relearn procedure.

General buying guidance only. Vehicle-specific service information and your installer’s compatibility checks take priority.

Common questions

Are the transmissions used?

Yes. Every part we sell is used, not new. Ask about the specific unit’s condition, available mileage information, included components and purchase terms.

Can I replace an automatic with a CVT or manual?

That is a conversion, not a straightforward replacement. It may require major mechanical and electronic changes. For a replacement request, start with your vehicle’s original transmission specification.

Will a used transmission need programming?

It depends on the vehicle and the replacement unit. Some require module programming, setup or a relearn procedure. Have your installer check the manufacturer’s instructions before installation.
